Scenes from Lockdown

Well it seems *knock on wood* that the week long lockdown did last just a week. Two weeks ago, on March 13, we got news that Shenzhen was basically locking down the city for a week to try to reign in rising COVID-19 case numbers (I wrote about it here). At the time we were hoping it was just going to be a week like they said but there was always the chance that it could get extended. Luckily it didn’t. Mostly.

On Monday, March 21 we woke up to most of the city being back to normal. The lesser hit areas seemed to be mostly back open. People were back to work. There was indoor dining, although maybe at limited capacity. I’m honestly not sure how leisure activities like gyms and movie theaters fared though. They might still be closed.

Futian district wasn’t so lucky though. It was the epicenter of the recent COVID-19 outbreak and some buildings/complexes/areas remained locked down on March 21. My complex isn’t one of them so I’m not sure if all the current lockdowns got extended the same amount or if any got extended again. But some places had to go into a second week. Even the places that opened back up in Futian, like my complex, had some rules to follow. Restaurants here, unlike in other districts, weren’t allowed to have dine in customers. And complexes had much stricter entry (and exit) requirements than just a couple months ago. I have to show my health code just to leave my apartment complex right now.

During the week of lockdown you could still go outside. Unless you were somewhere where a case (or maybe close contact) was found you could still leave for important things like groceries. And I could wander around my complex. So one day I went out to film some random stuff. Check the video out if you haven’t yet.

So things still aren’t great. Not even good really. But we’re tentatively moving in the right direction so hopefully that continues.
