One True Superfan

Oh boy was this fight a long time in the making. ‘One True Superfan’ was the very first fight that Sj and I worked on together but the third one that ended up getting released, after ‘White Guy Thinks He’s Japanese’ and the ‘Game of Death’ fight. What happened?

SJ and I had crossed paths before but we really met for the first time right after Dan and I finished filming ‘The Cafe.’ Literally the same day. Dan and SJ had either practice or a show at Jazzgarden the same day that we filmed the fight and I was still hanging around when SJ showed up. Dan introduced us and told SJ what we were doing and SJ wanted in. This was back near the end of 2019. October maybe.

From there we started brainstorming ideas. SJ was planning on releasing his song ‘Nothin’ Like You’ at the beginning of 2020 so we thought it would be cool to make a fight video that incorporated the song, so they could release around the same time and build excitement for each other. We came up with some story and choreographed the fight. We filmed the beginning part where I was watching SJ perform. We were ready to film the rest but Chinese New Year vacation was starting and we were each getting ready for our trips. We decided to film after we got back.

We weren’t traveling together but we were both going to Japan and we were going to be in Osaka at the same time so we decided to film a quick fight video while we were there too (the aforementioned ‘White Guy Thinks He’s Japanese’). Everything was going great. Unfortunately when we got back to Shenzhen we walked right into the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because so much was getting shut down and blocked off we couldn’t film ‘One True Superfan.’  And from there we just kept hitting roadblocks. By the time summer rolled around COVID was under control enough that we could have filmed BUT we had filmed the performance part at the beginning during the winter and I didn’t want to film the fight in winter clothes in the middle of the summer. My dedication was lacking. We probably should have just re-filmed the performance part but that is only occurring to me now. My intelligence was lacking. Then it started to get colder again but SJ had changed his haircut. That meant we had to re-film the performance part at the beginning. Too bad we hadn’t thought of it earlier. Then after re-filming the performance part towards the end of 2020 we filmed the fight itself at the beginning of 2021. Over a year ago.

The final hurdle was how slow I edit. For a couple of months at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 I was posting a fight video a month. Once I realized that was untenable I had to start spreading out my fight videos. I didn’t want to post a couple all at once then not have any for a year. So even after filming one I would usually wait a bit to post it. But in this case I waited way too long. My getting things done was lacking. I should have posted the previous fight video, ‘Throwing Shade,’ a month or two earlier then posted ‘One True Superfan’ towards the end of 2021. But I didn’t and ended up going way too long between fight videos even though I had them. The best laid plans of mice and men right?

But I finally got the fight edited and after figuring out a name it’s finally done. If you haven’t yet make sure to check it out!

I hope everyone enjoyed the fight video and listened to ‘Nothin’ Like You’ as well. If you liked them please remember to leave a comment and like, share, and subscribe.
