Another Lockdown
I was going to write the next 100 Movie Project post today, about The Mitchells vs. the Machines, but then we got locked down again so I’m going to do a quick update about that instead. That’s right. Again.
I want to say we started hearing about some cases in Shenzhen last weekend, then by Monday or Tuesday there were already whispers of a lockdown. I spent the second half of the week expecting to wake up and not be able to go to work. But we got through the week despite slowly rising case numbers.
But then the weekend rolled around and the government mostly locked down the city. A couple of outlying districts escaped but the city proper wasn’t so lucky. Important things like pharmacies and supermarkets are still open and restaurants can open for delivery but from what I’ve heard the rest of us can’t really go anywhere. At least that’s what I was told. I didn’t try to go out. They did block off some of the entrances to the complex though. But since I live in a complex I can go outside and walk around a little to shop and get my COVID tests at least.
Officially this lockdown is only supposed to last two days, Saturday and Sunday. But to me that doesn’t seem like enough of a lockdown to really do anything. So the question now will be if and how much they loosen it going back into the week. And hopefully we don’t end up like Chengdu, which is having a full on lockdown right now.
To be completely honest it’s getting tiresome. It’s been two and a half years and if anything the COVID rules have gotten worse. I’ve seen a lot of people leave and it’s not hard to see why they’re leaving.
