Tai Chi Blog 4 - Finished the Form

I finally know what each thing we’ve been doing in class is. At first I thought we were doing two separate forms but it turns out we were doing one form, the Yang Style 28 Form. We were just doing it out of order. The part we did first was from the end, then we did the beginning, then we did a middle part that connected them. I’m not sure why we did it in that order but if I had to guess I’d say that the moves the instructor wanted to teach us first were in the middle of the form. The first thing I learned in class was cloud hands and the part of the form we did first, from the end, started with cloud hands. So best guess is that’s why we started in the middle of the form. Could be something else though who knows.

One new thing we did in this class was a set of warm ups set to audio. The audio told you what to do as you repeated the moves and then moved into the next set. They seemed pretty good and I liked them as a tai chi warm up but I had trouble remembering them. The form stuff we practice in class usually gets plenty of repetition as we practice it a bunch of times. But we only did the warm up once. So I’m going to have to try harder to remember it or film it so that I can practice.

The other thing I had trouble with in this class was transitioning between the parts of form that we had learned. We put the whole Yang Style 28 Form together in this class but I still think of it as 3 separate parts. I probably will until I’ve been doing it all together for a couple of weeks. Because I think of it, and we learned it, as 2 separate parts I’m having a little trouble with the transitions between each part, since they’re a little new. I suspect I’ll figure that out pretty quick though and in a week or two won’t have so much trouble with it.

Although I had some trouble with the new warm ups and linking all of the form parts together I’m pretty excited to have the whole form put together now and I’m looking forward to seeing what we do in future classes.
