Choreography Thoughts
Last month I wrote about how I had finally decided to try choreographing a fight scene and then filming it. I’d been thinking about it for years and finally decided to really try. Well my friend Dan and I met a bunch of times during November and December to plan out and practice the choreography and then over two days at the end December we filmed it. I’ve spent the last two weeks slowly editing it together and now it’s finally done (check it out here)!
Honestly the video came out better than I ever hoped. It’s not as awesome as what I had in my head but the scenes in my head were (obviously) extremely unrealistic. Realistically I wasn’t sure what to expect but I tend to expect the worst so I don’t get let down as much. In this case though I was quite surprised. The video could never reach what I imagined but it’s much better than I had tentatively hoped for.
We did learn a lot filming though, both during the first afternoon we filmed and especially after that first day when we reviewed everything. We knew angles would be important but we still learned a lot about which ones looked good for certain techniques and which ones wouldn’t look as good. We also realized we need to work on distancing and speed going forward. There were a couple scenes we watched where we noticed that we weren’t spaced well enough and others that we watched and thought looked good, but would have looked much better if we’d been faster.
I’m honestly really excited to keep moving forward with this. In the short term Dan and I are going to do two more videos related to this first one. Sequels if you will. And longer term we’re going to keep looking for more people to film more scenes and do both more serious and more comedic videos. While we work on these please keep telling me about movies and YouTube channels with great choreography. I’m always on the lookout for inspiration.
I really enjoyed the entire process of putting this video together and can’t wait to do it again. And of course I’ll keep on working on Myriad Misadventure’s travel content as well. Keep your eyes open and thanks for all your support!
